The Skf brand of bearings were originally manufactured by "The Skf Bearing Company" which was started in New Britain, Connecticut in 1911.  Founder Howard S. Hart started the company based upon the need at that time for less expensive alternatives to English and German made ball bearings. Today, the Skf brand of ball bearings, which has been owned by several companies including Textron, Inc., and The Torrington Company (which was owned by Ingersoll Rand) is now part of The Timken Company.
